How it works
A WhatsApp translator keyboard is a system keyboard that can translate the message being composed in WhatsApp’s text field. With AI Translator Keyboard, enable the keyboard once in iPhone or Android settings, open any WhatsApp chat, switch keyboards with the globe or keyboard button, type the message in your language and tap the sparkle key. The draft is replaced by the translation in the selected target language; you review it and press WhatsApp’s Send button yourself. The keyboard does not automatically send messages. Ordinary typing is not sent to Launchborn’s servers, and the AI action starts only after the explicit tap. Incoming messages require a separate step because a keyboard cannot silently read an entire WhatsApp conversation: copy the message for clipboard translation or use the app’s user-initiated Chat Lens flow when available. This separation keeps the action visible and lets the user decide exactly which text is processed.
Set up the keyboard on iPhone
- Install AI Translator Keyboard from the App Store and open it.
- Follow onboarding, or open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard.
- Select AI Translator Keyboard. Enable Allow Full Access only if you plan to use cloud translation features; the local engine does not need to send translation text to Launchborn’s servers.
- Open WhatsApp and tap the message field.
- Touch and hold the globe key, then select AI Translator Keyboard.
- Choose the target language in the keyboard, type the draft and tap the sparkle key.
iOS may prevent third-party keyboards in certain fields or apps. Password fields always use Apple’s system keyboard. That restriction is expected security behavior, not a setup failure.
Set up the keyboard on Android
- Install AI Translator Keyboard from Google Play and open the app.
- Use the guided setup to enable the keyboard in Android’s input-method settings.
- Select AI Translator Keyboard as the current keyboard when Android shows the keyboard picker.
- Open WhatsApp, choose a chat and tap the message field.
- Type in the source language, confirm the target language and tap the sparkle key.
- Read the translated draft before sending it.
Android labels can vary by phone maker. On Pixel, Samsung, Xiaomi and other devices, the keyboard switcher may appear as a keyboard icon in the navigation area instead of a globe key.
Translate an outgoing WhatsApp message
The safest workflow keeps the user in control. Compose the full idea first, including names, punctuation and the desired tone. Tap the sparkle only when the draft is ready. AI Translator Keyboard detects the source language and replaces the text with a translation in the chosen target language.
Before sending, check names, dates, prices, addresses and culturally sensitive wording. AI translation is useful for everyday conversation but is not a certified human translation. Legal, medical, financial, immigration and emergency messages should be reviewed by a qualified person.
For casual conversation, keep the source natural rather than simplifying it into robotic fragments. The translation engine has more context when it receives a complete sentence, so it can preserve slang, punctuation and intent more reliably.
Understand an incoming WhatsApp message
A system keyboard is attached to the active text field; it does not automatically receive the full chat history on screen. To translate an incoming message, press and hold the message in WhatsApp, copy it and use the keyboard’s clipboard translation flow. This makes the selected content explicit.
Chat Lens is another user-initiated option for supported app versions. The user provides a cropped screenshot of the relevant conversation, and the feature suggests replies with context. A screenshot can contain more personal information than a single copied message, so crop it tightly and include only what is needed.
If you only need a one-off translation outside the keyboard, the free browser AI translator supports 51 target languages and does not require an account.
Choose the right privacy mode for WhatsApp
On-device
Best for sensitive everyday messages and unreliable connections. Translation stays on the phone after the model is ready.
Your own key
Best when you already trust and manage a supported AI provider. The request goes to that provider under its terms.
Pro
Best for simple setup. The requested text is processed in transit through the service and is not stored by AI Translator Keyboard.

Common WhatsApp keyboard problems
The keyboard is not in the switcher
Return to system keyboard settings and confirm that AI Translator Keyboard is enabled. On iPhone, also confirm that it was added to the Keyboards list. On Android, complete both the enable and select steps.
Cloud translation does not start
Check the internet connection. On iPhone, cloud modes require Allow Full Access. In your-own-key mode, confirm that the selected provider key is valid and has quota.
The translation replaces only part of the draft
Place the cursor in the WhatsApp message field and retry with a complete draft. Some apps expose limited text context to third-party keyboards.
The tone feels wrong
Add enough context to the source sentence and select the appropriate tone where available. Always review the result before sending.
Frequently asked questions
Can AI Translator Keyboard send a WhatsApp message automatically?
No. It replaces the draft in the text field. The user reviews the result and presses WhatsApp’s Send button.
Can it translate WhatsApp on both iPhone and Android?
Yes. The keyboard is available for both platforms, although system setup and available on-device models differ.
Does it read every WhatsApp conversation?
No. A keyboard works with the active text field. Incoming content is processed only when the user explicitly copies or shares the relevant text or image for an AI action.
Does WhatsApp need a special integration?
No. AI Translator Keyboard works as a system keyboard, so WhatsApp only needs to provide a normal text field.
